Are You Tired Of Struggling With OCD?
You check the stove again, reread the text again, or replay a conversation until it feels "right." The relief never lasts. OCD therapy in Cleveland at a CLEar Mind Therapy gives you a calm, private place to talk. That includes the thoughts you have never said to anyone.
We see people in person at our Mayfield Village office on Cleveland's East Side, and virtually anywhere in Ohio. Many of the people we work with are young adults between 18 and 30, though we welcome other ages too.
What OCD Therapy Involves
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a cycle. An unwanted thought, image, or urge shows up and brings anxiety, doubt, or disgust. That is the obsession. You then do something to make the feeling go away, like checking, washing, counting, asking for reassurance, or mentally reviewing. That is the compulsion.
Compulsions bring short-term relief, which teaches your brain to repeat them. Over time the loop takes more of your attention and your day. OCD counseling works on the loop itself, not just on the content of the thoughts. You learn to notice the pattern, respond differently, and let doubt sit without fixing it.
Our OCD therapy is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which looks at how thoughts, feelings, and actions feed each other.
Who Can Benefit From OCD Counseling?
OCD counseling may be a good fit if you:
- Are a student or young professional whose doubts are slowing down school or work.
- Were diagnosed years ago and want to restart therapy as an adult.
- Suspect OCD but have never had a name for what you experience.
- Live with OCD alongside ADHD, anxiety, depression, or trauma.
- Are a parent whose child's rituals are affecting home or school.
Parents can also join family sessions to learn shared language. You do not need a formal diagnosis to book OCD therapy in Cleveland. If your symptoms are severe enough that daily life has stopped, a more intensive program may suit you better at first. We can talk that through honestly and help you find the right level of care.
Signs You May Benefit From Therapy for OCD
You may notice some of these:
- Intrusive thoughts that feel shocking or "not like you."
- Needing things to feel "just right," even, or complete before you move on.
- Checking locks, appliances, messages, or your body more than you want to.
- Asking friends or family for reassurance, then needing to ask again.
- Washing or cleaning routines that leave your skin raw or your schedule wrecked.
- Mental rituals, like replaying, counting, praying, or "neutralizing" a thought.
- Avoiding people, places, or objects because of what might happen.
These experiences can have other causes, so they are not a diagnosis. They are a reason to talk with an OCD therapist who can help sort out what is going on.
How OCD Therapy Helps
The goal is not to stop every unwanted thought. Everyone has strange thoughts. The goal is for those thoughts to matter less, so they stop running your schedule. Many people find they spend less time on rituals and feel more able to choose how they respond.
Approaches we may use include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): spotting the thinking traps OCD relies on, like needing total certainty.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): making room for discomfort while you act on what matters to you.
- DBT skills: distress tolerance and emotion regulation for the moments when an urge feels unbearable.
- Exposure work: [CONFIRM: ERP use and how it is described]
Progress depends on practice between sessions. As Krista puts it, you get out what you put in, and people who use the skills often start noticing changes in how they respond.

Our Approach to OCD Counseling
We are direct and we are warm. Krista believes in pushing gently for change, because OCD tends to grow when it is accommodated. She will also make sure you understand the reason behind every skill before you try it.
Shame is often the heaviest part of OCD. Many people hide taboo thoughts for years. They fear what a therapist will think. Intrusive thoughts are a common OCD symptom, and you will not be judged for having them.
When a child or teen has OCD, family sessions can help everyone use the same language and skills. Krista uses a "speaking squishy" so each person gets a turn without being talked over. She also stays neutral, so no one feels outnumbered.
Meet Our OCD Therapists
Krista Smith, MS, LPCC-S is the owner of a CLEar Mind Therapy. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervision designation in Ohio and has about 8 years of licensed experience. Before private practice, she was an individual and group therapist in an intensive inpatient setting. She is trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma-focused CBT, and OCD is one of her specialties. That inpatient background means she is comfortable with symptoms that feel intense or frightening.
Rachel Wink, MSSA, LISW is a Licensed Independent Social Worker whose practice is LGBTQ-affirming. She works with OCD, ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, and trauma, using CBT, DBT, and EMDR. [CONFIRM: Rachel's years of experience and OCD-specific training]
